I started in data analytics because I wanted to understand how organisations actually make decisions — but I kept finding that the bottleneck wasn't a lack of data. It was the translation.
Between what the numbers showed and what the team believed, there was always a gap. Dashboards were built, but nobody used them. Reports were generated, but they didn't answer the operational questions the business was actually asking.
I realised early on that technical ability alone doesn't make a good analyst. A good analyst has to start with the business problem — what needs to change, and what data can move it? The dashboard is the last thing designed, not the first.
This led to my consulting work, where I help organisations build intelligence systems that are actually used. It also drove my research, including a Master's thesis at ESIEE Paris predicting IT project delays using machine learning — proving that predictive models are only useful when they are grounded in real, messy, organisational data.
I didn't start out planning to build an academy. I started by sharing what I was learning and doing on YouTube and LinkedIn. It was a form of quality control — explaining my processes out loud. But as my audience grew past 24,000 across platforms, I kept getting the same questions from aspiring analysts trying to break into the field.
Most courses were teaching them how to click buttons in Power BI or write syntax in SQL. Nobody was teaching them how to think like an analyst. I founded Ratafar Academy to close that gap. We teach the technical tools, but always in service of answering real business questions.
